Journal entry by Stacy Godfry

On December 24 Lee was having terrible headaches. He couldn’t work and he had no appetite. He was in two ERs, admitted to a hospital for one night and released (with pain medication but no diagnosis) and we were told he needs to see a neurologist. We followed up with our ENT, our dentist, and of course following the direction of the hospital with a neurologist. The neurologist shared that Lee probably has a migraine. And he prescribed medication.  After one week of being on the medication, we called the neurologist and shared that we don’t have much change in pain level and they were changing his script.

Lee went to work yesterday morning not feeling his best. When he got home he stumbled in the door - Sharing with me that he really doesn’t have feeling in his legs, his right arm/hand and he started to slur his words.  Against my better judgment, I did not call an ambulance and I drove him to the emergency room. Lee in fact had a stroke.

Lee was admitted to JFK Medical Center. He does not have feeling or function of his right leg. Out of a scale of 5, from his knee down he is a 1 out of 5 and from his knee to his hip he is a 2 out of  5.  His right arm, wrist and fingers have no function. The physical therapist is pleased to see that he can bend his arm at his elbow.… Right now we will take all of the small successes.  His speech is slow and at times slurred.   While he still has a series of tests to go for, he will eventually be moved to an inpatient physical therapy rehabilitation center. He will need to learn how to walk again, get full function of his right arm wrist and fingers and he will also receive speech therapy.
At this point, Lee is a little frustrated, very sad that he can’t see Kiley and he is asking for the puppies.  You all know that opposites attract and he is more of the pessimist and I am more of the optimistic one… That has not changed.

Kiley Took the day off from school today because she needed a mental health day. Obviously, Kiley knows that her daddy is in the hospital but she does not know to the extent of what is happening. I will tell her in the next couple of days. Right now she is with grandma and grandpa and aunt Stacy.  Tomorrow she will be returning to school - I know routine is good for her.

A quick thank you to all of our family and friends from near and far who have been checking on us.  C,T,M and Uncle A- thank you. From now on, I promise to update here regularly.  It’s hard to keep this off of social media… It’s hard because so many of our family lives all over the world and we thought that this was just the best option for sharing to everybody what’s happening.

This is going to be a new experience for our family but I know that we will be stronger on the other side.

Lee appreciates all thoughts and prayers being sent his way and asks that you hold off on contacting him at this time.
