LeAnn’s Story

Site created on November 26, 2022

On November 14th LeAnn suddenly started experiencing terrible headaches and mild fever. We went to the ER on Wednesday of that week and got no answers, they seemed only concerned of covid/flu/rsv which she had no symptoms of. By the weekend the headaches and fever had gotten lighter but she was extremely weak and almost immobile. We went to the ER again Sunday evening and they did some tests, bloodwork, no answers but a follow up appointment for Friday. Tuesday she was still pretty much immobile and extremely weak so called Rochester ER, recommended to go to the follow up in Red Wing. Friday at her follow up her primary care Dr recommended going back to the ER to do some investigating, Gretchen was able to come to the ER to keep us company and ask more questions as she has medical knowledge. They did more blood work among other things, tried spinal tap and couldn't get it. We were sent to St Marys Emergency, LeAnn in the ambulance and I and Gretchen drove down. Since we have gotten here its been tons of blood work, CT scans, MRIs, shortly onto another MRI and then the spinal fluid draw. The last contrast MRI shows some contrast around her spine and brain that should not be there, they are unsure what is causing that yet but inflammation or infection somewhere possibly so the next step is trying to find that could take days or longer. Amazingly she's in pretty good spirits. I will post a follow up when we know more.

Journal entry by Brian Rauchwarter

LeAnn had another MRI Wednesday in Rochester. Today we went back to see the Neurologists and see what they had to say about the results. There is very little inflammation as of now, they expect that to go away also. LeAnn is in the clear for now and will be able to go back to work part time in 2 weeks, a month after that back to full time and onto normal life!

75% never have a reoccurance but some do, they don't know if LeAnn will. If symptoms return they will fast track treatment so she won't have to go thru all of this again.
