Layne’s Story

Site created on June 21, 2023

Layne was in a bad car accident Tuesday, June 20 which resulted in a broken femur, collapsed lung and a brain injury. After being stabilized in Bozeman he was life flighted to Billings due to the brain injury. This morning the doctors were able to insert a ventricular tube into his brain to drain fluid and monitor the pressure. So far all of the fluid and readings have been where they’re supposed to be. Praise God! He just came back from surgery to insert a rod into his leg and that surgery went very well. They are saying when he wakes up he’ll be able to stand on it right away. Because of his brain injury he is intubated and will remain sedated for at least the first 72 hours.
We will keep you updated as we know more. We have been overwhelmed by the amount of people reaching out to say that they’re praying for Layne and asking how they can help tangibly. Thank you! Please keep praying! We will post other needs as they arrive.

Journal entry by Mandy Fowler

Layne had another follow up appointment in Salt Lake City today. He did great on all the tests they ran! He scored the same as someone who doesn’t have a TBI on one of them which is super encouraging! They did tell him he had to cut back on his already limited phone time, but they also said that he can start playing video games again which I’m sure softened the blow. ☺️ He was able to see all of his therapists and some of his nurses and aides who were all excited to see him. One of his favorite nurses came running up to give him a hug.

He continues to improve more and more each day. He’s completed 12 weeks of physical therapy and at this point no longer needs it! His mom takes him to the gym a couple times each week so I’m sure he’s wishing he could go to PT instead. 😏 He’s still going to speech and occupational therapies a few times each week. He’s also had the opportunity to do horse therapy through a local non-profit and has really enjoyed it. It’s only four weeks, but he can start the next session in January.

Another huge answer to prayer is he’s been able to slowly start going back to school! He’s gone to study hall and lunch a few times each week and he’s going to start going to Bible class three times/week. He’s always very happy to go and loves seeing his friends.

Thanksgiving was extra special this year and we’re so thankful for each of you and how you have supported Layne and his family! God is so faithful!
