Layla’s Story

Site created on January 24, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. In January 2021 Layla was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The brain tumor is located on her left optic nerve. Because of the location of the tumor, surgery is not an option or she could lose her eyesight. She will be getting weekly chemo treatments through a port in her chest. She is such a strong, brave, smart, talented girl. We are very blessed to be her parents. We are thankful to live close to excellent doctors and we are trusting in God and praying for complete healing. We appreciate your prayers, support and words of hope and encouragement!

Update: Layla completed a year of chemo through her port. The tumor shrank a little. She had a year off of treatment and then it grew. She is currently on another chemo in the form of weekly pills. She has checkups and labs every month at the hospital, MRI’s and eye exams and lots of other test every 3 months. Thank you for your prayers.

Journal entry by Kristin Sawyer

Layla’s MRI went really well! She was able to fall asleep during the mri with only Valium. We were so thankful they didn’t have to use sedation. She didn’t eat before just in case they needed to use sedation and was very happy to eat her favorite donut from early birds donuts after getting out of the MRI around 12:30. The images showed the tumor to be about the same size as it was in January which means she can continue to be off treatment for at least the next 3 months as long as her eye exam next week is stable too. She has grown 1/4 inch in the last 3-4 months. Please pray that she will grow more! Thank you all for loving her and praying for her! 💜
