Laurie’s Story

Site created on December 2, 2023

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.

My off- road journey began when my usually normal mammogram was not normal. I was called and told that I needed a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound where my husband John and I were told that the images looked like cancer. From here the road took us to biopsies which on November 14 confirmed that I have breast cancer.

It's been a busy couple of weeks meeting with a breast surgeon, oncologist, more tests and more scans at FMLH.

I got my port placed this past week so I can start chemo on Dec. 7. I will need 2 chemo agents and an immunotherapy drug. I have decided to name my port No. 3 or 3 of 9 (Borg) a Star Trek reference for someone who is part human part machine.

I am so grateful and blessed to have so many wonderful people in my life.
I am especially thankful for the love and support from my husband and our children. Cancer is not my life it's just something that has taken me on a detour.

Thank you for visiting.

Newest Update

Journal entry by John Humphrey

Well, another day of infusions occurred on Wednesday (May 1). Laurie’s labs looked quite good so no delays encountered. She did quite well with no issues. Just one more round on May 22. She will undergo another breast MRI on May 13 with a visit with the surgeon on the 14th to discuss the surgical plan.
We continue to feel very impressed with her medical team who all are so empathetic and sympathetic with the diagnosis. We could not ask for a better team, which includes family and friends who continue to be so supportive.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. (Apparently credit for the saying goes to Virgil in his epic poem Aeneid…yes, I’m retired and have time to read the classics). I’ve enclosed the picture on which we focused during the infusions. No window view this time.
Take care. Happy almost Mother’s Day!
