Laurel’s Story

Site created on September 25, 2022

Laurel was diagnosed with a form of Cancer called Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on 9/1/2022, just two weeks before her third birthday. She was then moved into the "High Risk" group when she failed to achieve remission during the first phase of treatment.

Although Laurel finally achieved remission months later, her journey is far from over. She faces ongoing treatment until at least 2025, along with many risks such as relapse and treatment-related complications. After that, she is very likely to have "late effect" symptoms that will need to be monitored for and managed throughout her life. These include relapse, secondary cancer, heart and lung weakness, and metabolic issues.

We'll post major updates, as well as related thoughts and information here on Caring Bridge. We've also established a group chat on "Signal App" for everyone to connect and for quick updates and messages. You can request to join it at the following link:

Journal entry by Kathryn Gardner

Well what a surprise we had this morning! Laurel didn’t sleep well last night and was up twice eating snacks. Someone was hungry because her body was busy making all those blood products!

Laurels counts jumped from .3 to .7! Her platelets look good and so does her hemoglobin!
With this good news we are able to go HOME

We are home for a while before we go back for an LP and her Chemo on May 4th. We have a very busy schedule ahead with trying to get out house projects finished. But please send some love and we would love to chat.

We weren’t home 5 minutes when she asked to go ride her bike and play on the playground.
