Journal entry by Sarah Wilson

If you have been following the community outreach for the Yorkie family, you will recall that towards the end of 2022 Laura York was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. After struggling with oxygen levels for a few weeks through the fall, different routine check ups, followed by more invasive procedures she was diagnosed with breast cancer. At that time the cancer had already metastasized to her lungs, spine and stomach. She started treatment December 6th 2022, including chemotherapy and alternative treatments, such as Mistletoe and Vitamin C infusions, supplements, ice baths, exercise routines, complete diet change and much more. Laura is doing all things possible to fight this cancer tooth and nail. On April 16th 2024, during Laura’s most recent scan, she received the news that the medication that she has been taking is no longer keeping her cancer at bay.

In her time since her diagnosis Laura has defied the odds. She started a garden, read every book on alternative cancer treatments and implemented them into her life, and even hiked a 20 mile marathon in April of 2024. She is a wonderful mother to 4 children, 10, 8, 5, and 2, who she also homeschools. Laura’s amazing husband BJ has been her support and rock throughout her diagnoses and treatments. BJ is the sole earner in their family of 6. At this time, we are asking for any support that you are able to give to this family, be it monetary or by acts of service.

We will have a Meal Train set up in the coming weeks, if you would like to bring a meal or have a meal sent to the family. Gift cards to local restaurants or delivery services are also welcome.

Please let us know if you know of any lawn care and yard work services that may want to donate their time and services to helping so that BJ can spend as much time with his family as possible. If you would like to donate your time, please let us know.

With 4 children, the Yorkies have a significant amount of laundry and cleaning that needs to be done around their home. If you would like to offer your time or know of a cleaning company that might donate their time and services, please let us know.

Lastly, the Yorkie children are active in theater, dance, sports, and homeschool cooperatives. Any offers to help the children get from point A to point B would be most helpful, so that Laura can focus on her health and the children’s lives will not be disrupted more than is necessary. We will be creating a Sign Up Genius to help with transportation needs in the coming weeks.
