Journal entry by Laura Case —
Dear friends and family,
I had my repeat MRI and met with my Neurosurgeon yesterday.
Things are looking better! 🙌 🙌
What was discussed at the appointment:
I want to thank everyone who followed my story and walked along side us during this time of pain, uncertainty and challenge. Your love, care and support meant so much to us and continues to minister to our hearts. There is power in prayer and we are excited about what God has accomplished. We are encouraged by His answers to our prayers!
Prayer requests:
I had my repeat MRI and met with my Neurosurgeon yesterday.
Things are looking better! 🙌 🙌
What was discussed at the appointment:
- The basilar invagination (the vertebra at the top of the spine that migrated up and backward putting pressure on my brainstem) has improved via imaging results
- The spinal fluid flow has improved via imaging results
- Symptoms have improved per patient experience
- Remaining symptoms could continue to resolve over the course of this next year, although some may never go away completely...time will tell
- A weight restriction of 25 lbs must be maintained for the next 3 months due to continued pressure in the back of my neck
- There is still limited range of motion in my neck from surgery that may require physical/massage therapy to help
- I will meet with my Neurosurgeon in about 3 months to be assessed again and hopefully be cleared for all regular activity
- I am at greater risk of spinal cord injury and sudden death than the average person but my risk has lowered since my recent surgery
- No surgery is necessary for the year of 2020 and possibly never
- Although the basilar invagination has improved it is not completely resolved. This may mean a neck fusion in the future but only if my symptoms start to affect my quality of life
I want to thank everyone who followed my story and walked along side us during this time of pain, uncertainty and challenge. Your love, care and support meant so much to us and continues to minister to our hearts. There is power in prayer and we are excited about what God has accomplished. We are encouraged by His answers to our prayers!
Prayer requests:
- For protection as I go about my duties as a RN on the medical/surgical floor and intensive care unit under the 25 lb weight restriction
- For increased neck mobility and range of motion
- For peace and patience as I continue to heal and recover from surgery
- For total freedom from another surgery for life
- For total resolve of symptoms within this next year
Patients and caregivers love hearing from you; add a comment to show your support.
