Newest Update

Journal entry by Preston Bain

Sorry for the long period in between reports but there has not been a lot to report as of recent.  Laura's balance and depth perception is pretty much back to normal.  She went to the Optometrist a few weeks ago and her field of vision in perfect.  She does still have some issues viewing the computer screen for long periods of time but we are hoping that once the headaches go away that will clear up as well.

As far as the headaches, she is still having headaches every day.  We do have an appointment with the Neurologist this coming Thursday so she can get a series of botox injections into her scalp that is supposed to help the headaches go away.  We are both hoping that is a magic bullet and will get this lingering aspect cleared up.  It can take 1-2 weeks to reach it's full effect though so unfortunately it won't be immediate.

She took the first two hours of a four hour exam to be able to drive.  She passed the first section of the test so we are getting closer to the goal of driving.  We're not sure when they will schedule the remaining portion of the test but hopefully in the next two weeks.  She's only slightly stir crazy if you can imagine.

She also got the results back from the Hematologist and learned more about her blood than you could ever want to know.  The thing that was interesting is that the clotting disorder that she had, and there was no doubt she had it, is completely gone.  They cant explain it.  It's both good and bad because we don't know when it decided to magically disappear - before the stroke or after the stroke.  That's somewhat leaves us without an answer to what actually caused the stroke which is frustrating.

All in all we are moving closer and closer to the goal of driving and getting back to normal routines.

We all still feel Bear's absence in the home so we are on the hunt for a new dog that is cute, affectionate, and has great patience since he will have to adapt to crazy if he comes to live with us  :)
