We have enjoyed lots of visitors in last month, incl Joyce mom best friend Marge. And enjoyed neighbor patio feasts. Buddies Kris and Brady and J bestie Krissy. No one on the forward calendar- yet.
My chemo cycles have not made 4 week plan, last 2 5 & 6 weeks as white blood not recovered to 1800 until then. 2 week check last Wed was only 500 neutrophils which is ‘critical’, so received a belly shot of Filgrastim meant to temporary boost. This Wed still 500, so getting 3 shots in a row. Dipping low is expected midway thru chemo cycle, but staying there for a week or longer is too high risk of infection. Tomorrow will check blood pre-shot to see if having effect. Side effects are flu like symptoms, achy chills but no fever. Today took Claritin allergy pill, which for some reason reduces side effects. So today was better than yesterday, still napped more than usual. But had to defer dental check another couple weeks, Dr didn’t want them even do a visual check and poke tops for cavities. Cleaning out of question as gum bleed super high risk. Lets me know how careful I have to be in general!
Bittersweet Dr Yan last appointment as left today from nearby Morton Plant for Grand Rapids MI. Young family closer to family both sides. While Moffitt Drs stay measured (as mindful of 3 yr journey to no more treatment), Dr Yan able to reflect on my journey since he diagnosed my MDS Feb 2023. As he smiled and shook my hand, he noted that “You had a very serious disease, and ‘not many’ with my particular ‘flavor’ come out the other side like I have.”
Nice to have him leave with a success story on his watch! His colleague will continue to be local implementor of chemo under Moffitt watchful eyes. So grateful for the many eyes on my recovery, in spite of gyrating blood levels that continue to surprise, not unlike the stock market.
Taking it day by day, afternoon-evenings are my best time, so happy to take catch up calls when your busy schedules allow.
