Journal entry by Sarah Jerome

Peace

The month of January was a labor of love for our family, and Larry had a daily "love parade" through the house.

As he continued to weaken, our family worked together to provide support and care day and night. The days brought opportunities for talks, laughs, music, and planning. Friends and family both near and far made visits to his bedside. It was a special time to be able to reconnect with loved ones for both Larry and family.

Larry's children and in-laws, who are all busy with work and family routines, prioritized time together at the farm. We spent more time together in one month than we ever imagined! There was a lot of bonding in the process.

The farm kitchen was filled with meals and treats gifted by loved ones. We are so grateful to have had food prepared for us during this busy and stressful time. Thank you to everyone who supported us in this way.

Music and Faith were brought to Larry's bedside as well.  We read from the Bible and prayed as a family. The Mennonite choir stood at his bedside and sang hymns to him on several occasions. Pastor Lee arranged a service of preparation with Communion for our family.

It was a gift to have time to prepare to say goodbye.

On the early morning of January 30th, we gathered as we knew Larry's final journey had begun. It was a day exactly what Larry would have wanted. Shelley, their children, in-laws, and a few grandchildren were present. In the morning, Sacia and long time special family friend Lenore Berg played piano and cello at the foot of Larry's bed. He responded to the beautiful music, we knew this brought him joy and comfort. The day was spent together around Larry. He always loved it when his house was full of his kids and family. We shared a delicious dinner together as he rested peacefully.

Late in the evening we gathered around Larry's bed. We held onto each other and Larry tightly. We prayed the Lord's Prayer and he passed peacefully from this Earth to the gates of Heaven.

Thank you for your support on this journey.

Our community, friends and family have lifted us up in kindness and love. We are filled with gratitude.
