Newest Update

Journal entry by Sandra Fouty

Hi everyone! It's been a little while since I wrote an update. I hope you are all doing well.

Kyle continues to make progress in all areas of his recovery. He continues to go to physical and occupational therapy twice per week. One highlight is that he graduated from an upright/standing walker to a regular walker. The regular walker is a little more challenging for Kyle, but he is always up for a good challenge. He continues to improve on his walking distance, too.

Recently he was able to walk inside of parallel bars (no walker). He walked from one end to the other and turned around. His grip strength is improving too. He continues to get stronger as time goes by. His care team pointed out that people with similar injuries tend to stop improving after approximately a year. But Kyle is approaching 2 years since the accident and is still steadily progressing.

On days that he's not in physical/occupational therapy, he exercises at home on a  machine that works his arms and legs.

Kyle has been taking a writing class through the college that I work at. He is in the process of signing up for his next one - a creative writing class. He enjoys having something productive to do during his off time.

We continue to enjoy our nightly ritual of watching Jeopardy. Kyle does really well and I'm happy if I get a few questions right. We are also watching the new season of the Bachelor. It's good entertainment for us. We are streaming Only Murders in the Building right now, too. We'll be looking for suggestions on what to watch next. Leave us some ideas in the comments, please.

I've joined a poker league that keeps me busy a few nights a week. There are about 50 people who play for points and eventually, if I earn enough points, I may qualify for a Tournament of Champions. The buy in is always free, but the winner takes home $100 if they win. I haven't won yet, but I came in second once and have several top 10 finishes. It's a good outlet for me that gets me out of the house and is good, clean fun. The people in the league are really friendly and are mostly senior citizens.

Enjoy the photos below of Kyle in physical therapy. If you want to see videos, friend me on facebook.

Thanks for checking in and following all the good progress we've been blessed with.
