Journal entry by Denise Hennum

April 30th (Friday)

So Kyle is still in the ICU but things are looking up.  He is going to be moved out of the ICU unit this afternoon to the Neuro floor.  His blood pressure seems to be doing ok.  They were able to get him in a recliner so he could be sitting up.  They did some PT while he was in the recliner.  Baby step forward he is not running a fever anymore.  Good news!  We moved to the Neur floor late Friday afternoon and were able to get Kyle situated in his new room.  He is still extremely week and pain is being controlled with a lot of meds.  Here comes the But,  they had to remove the nerve that goes to his left peck muscle and under arm, due to the nerve being to involved with the tumor.  They sacrificed the nerve to get all of the tumor out.  Which we are ok with.  He still have numbness from chest to waist but is slowly changing for the better.

May 1st - Saturday

Kyle's hemoglobin dropped and hit their bench mark for requiring blood.  So they started to give him blood today.  Greg spent the day with him and kept him occupied during the day.  He was slowly starting to improve as he received more blood which perked him up.  So baby steps.

May 2nd - Sunday

Chad is spending the day with Kyle .  He has improved even more today.  They have him up and walking down the hall and back, still wobbly and unsure of his footing but he is walking.  After PT they spent the day visiting and watching the ID Channel.

May 3rd - Monday

Kyle is still continuing PT and OT.  They are trying to get him stronger.  Colleen (Grandma) spent the day with him.  They are now working on how to do things with his brace on.

May 4th - Tuesday

I went down this afternoon to spend the evening with him.  PT visited and Kyle walked down the hall to the PT area and tried to do some climbing steps.  That did not go to well, he started to get light headed and dizzy.  We had to wheel him back in the wheelchair.  So they will try again in the morning.  They are informing us that probably tomorrow he will be able to come home.  They have ordered the special equipment that he will need during his recovery.  I am hoping and praying that the trip home will not be too much for him to handle.  He gets extremely car sick when not feeling well.  Wish us luck!
