After many memorable years in the resource conservation field, primarily managing recycling and reuse programs as well as building deconstruction operations, my body suggested I seek activity a little less physical. My mind agreed, so I decided to put that work experience to use for the benefit of businesses having difficulty managing growth, in terms of updating and developing more engaging content for their website, helping with blog posts and newsletters, and any other marketing collateral the business may require.
I'm also pitching to print and online publications for freelance writing assignments focusing on outdoor recreation and appreciating life as a Baby Boomer. I’ve always reveled in writing for publication, ever since getting involved with my college newspaper in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and going on to become a founding editor of an alternative newspaper in the 1980s - which is still being published today.
I’ve used my English degree many times over the course of my career to apply for grants with various non-profit organizations that I worked for, with considerable success. I’ve written the accompanying reports, as well as other reportorial content for business marketing material and a 43-page Feasibility Study on residential building deconstruction for the City of Boulder. I enjoy creative composition and have always wanted to make it my vocation. When the opportunity arose, I dedicated myself to freelance writing.
My passion is the outdoors and all the various ways of enjoying it, particularly in the Rocky Mountains. Businesses that provide products and services for being good stewards of our natural resources would be my preferred clients. I’m open to new approaches to getting the word out about the gear and attitude that define the modern outdoor enthusiast. The internet has transformed the method, but not the message. I truly believe that good writing is more essential now than ever before. Finding the time and human resources to produce effective content is becoming more of an in-house challenge. Contracting with a freelance writer can alleviate this. Experience matters.
