Dear family and friends,
Kristyn is a 39 year old mother of 3 girls - 9, 8 and 6. As some of you may already know, our beautiful and loving sister was diagnosed with a genetic kidney disease 14 years ago. Over the years Kristyn has done everything she can to keep her kidneys as healthy as possible. Unfortunately with no good cure and no good treatment available, she is in need of a kidney transplant. However, finding a kidney for a transplant is not easy. Just ask the 100,000 + people on the waiting list. Time is not on her side. The average wait time for a deceased kidney is 5 years or more. For these reasons, Kristyn’s doctors have informed us that finding a living donor is the best option moving foward. Asking a family member, friend or stranger to consider donating a kidney is difficult, but GREATLY improves her chances of getting a transplant.
You might not know a lot about living donation, we definitely didn’t until recently. Here is some basic information we have learned about donation.
- you only need one kidney to live a long, healthy
life.
- the recovery period from donor surgery is fairly
quick, generally 2 weeks.
- the cost of the donors evaluation and surgery will
be covered by Kristyn’s insurance.
- you will have a team of healthcare professionals to
evaluate you as a living donor. They will help you
understand the risks and benefits of donation.
Kristyn has been accepted and placed on the kidney transplant list at both Baylor Dallas and Integris OKC. If you would like to consider donating to her you can fill out an application @:
https://survey.livingdonordallas.org/baylor.transplant.kidney/donor.prereq.1/dialogs/landing-page.baylor.kidney.donor).
Integris OKC application:
https://integrisok.com/locations/transplant/integris-nazih-zuhdi-transplant-institute/services/kidney-and-pancreas-transplant/become-a-living-donorOnce you complete either or both applications a transplant coordinator will reach out and answer any additional questions you might have.
We know living donation may not be right for everyone. If you know anyone who might please forward this page on. Forwarding this to your family, friends, workplace, school, church congregation, or any other community would be so helpful.
Last but not least, please keep Kristyn and her sweet family in your prayers as they navigate the journey ahead! 🤍 🤍
Thank you
