Journal

Well, it is hard to believe but I am headed to the hospital in the morning for my last treatment!  This will be the sixth and final treatment in my treatment plan.  The 4th and 5th round of chemo have proven to get progressively worse, as expected.  They have caused my blood counts (WBC, hemoglobin, and platelets) to get very low and I have had to have regular blood and platelet transfusions to maintain a level that allowed me to continue with treatments.  This last round was probably the most difficult and hardest on my body, but it is amazing how God provides the strength in order to continue (physically, mentally, and spiritually).  As I prepare for my last admission for treatment, I can't help but be excited but more than anything I feel eternally grateful for all the prayers and support from everyone.

It is hard to understand sometimes why you must go through storms like this journey, but I recently experienced a situation that reminded me that sometimes you are able to use your experience to understand someone else’s journey to pray for and encourage them.  A few months ago, I was at a store buying some “comfy” clothes for the hospital and I walked by a gentleman sitting in a chair, waiting on his wife in the dressing room and holding her purse.  He looked right at me and told me that he would be praying for me.  We talked for a couple of minutes as I told him a little about my journey.  Just a couple of weeks ago we were walking out of the oncologist’s office and I saw both he and his wife.  He recognized me immediately and told me again that he had been praying for my healing.  We all talked for a few minutes and his wife told me that she was actually headed down for her first round of chemo and when we met a few months ago she did not know she had cancer.  So now I will pray for her and hope to continue to encourage her as she starts her treatment journey.  I have received so many cards and texts with scriptures of encouragement…all of which have strengthened and encouraged me…I hope to do the same for her.
