Kristi’s Story

Site created on September 9, 2023

This is a page set up for Kristi Grimes, who was recently diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Kristi is 43 years old and currently living in Huntsville, AL. She attended Auburn University and has spent the last 15 years teaching in the Birmingham and Huntsville community.

This journey started for Kristi a couple of months ago when she started experiencing severe abdominal pain.  After several doctor visits, the gynecologist found a grapefruit sized cyst on her ovary and endometriosis. On August 28th Kristi had an abdominal hysterectomy.  A few days later the lab results came back showing cancer cells in the uterus and ovary and they said it was Stage 2.  She was referred to Dr. Kirby, a GYN Oncologist in Huntsville. The appointment came and he confirmed it was an aggressive cancer. They discussed chemo as a treatment plan.

Kristi had been having a hard time recovering from the abdominal hysterectomy and was having difficulty breathing.  Due to these concerns, her doctor sent her to the ER to check for a blood clot. One day, lots of blood work, scans and an x-ray later--they found out there was no blood clot, but more cancer. They found cancer in a mass over her liver, a small spot on her right lung, and in the diaphragm. This moved the diagnosis to Stage 4. It also moved the time frame for chemo.

Currently we are hoping that she will start chemo on Wednesday, September 13th. She is still in the Huntsville Hospital and starting chemo will depend on if she is well enough to tolerate it.

We are confident in the healing power of faith in Christ and we are asking for prayers for complete healing for Kristi. God has shown himself strong and given us all strength to stand with Kristi while she rests in HIM.

A Go Fund Me page has been added to help support Kristi and her family. While restaurant gift cards are usually a good idea, Kristi plans on eating a very specific diet during this journey. If you’re looking for ways to help, please consider making a monetary donation that she can use at her discretion for food, parking, or other medical costs that arise.
