Newest Update

Journal entry by Kristie Hayward

Nearly six months ago my life was forever changed when I was diagnosed with triple-positive breast cancer.  Since then, I have successfully completed one hell of a chemo regime and I have been a frequent flyer on the emotional roller coaster of life with cancer.  I would like to say that tomorrow’s surgery marks the end of my fight against cancer, but unfortunately, that is not my reality.

Since my cancer had metastasized to my liver, it is technically considered incurable because the doctors cannot guarantee that any microscopic cancer cells did not travel elsewhere in my body.  The good news is that my body responded very well to the chemo and I am currently NED (no evidence of disease).  The goal from now until forever is to keep me NED, which is why I will continue to receive antibody infusions every three weeks.  (The antibodies are proven to be very effective at keeping my type of cancer away.)  Should the antibodies ever become less effective, the oncologist will switch me to a chemo pill, a different type of hormone therapy, a different med, etc.  I will also have MRIs every three months so that if anything tries to form, it can be caught early and taken care of.  The oncologist continues to assure us that there are still many chapters to be written in my story.

I would be lying if I said that I am okay with all of this.  Truthfully, it makes me overwhelmingly sad.  I miss the life that I was living prior to August 24, 2023.  But, that life is no longer and I am learning how to be me…but with a little less hair and a lot more appreciation for life.

Thank you for continuing on this journey with me and for your never-ending support and encouragement.  I appreciate each and every one of you more than you will ever know.

As always… go be good humans, make good choices, and do something nice for someone today!

I love you-
-Kristie

P.S.  F cancer!
