Newest Update

Journal entry by Nichole Hunter

Hello Krusaders!

It has been over 6 weeks since the last post.  Remember no news, is good news!  However, so much has been happening as Krissy moves forward in recovery that she felt it was time to update you all.   (Pictures of the family from the holidays are attached)

Since we last journaled,  Krissy completed her course of radiation.  She was a rockstar for her treatments and tolerated the process really well.  Her skin has been healing since mid December and she has been doing some physical therapy to help her mobility on the side she received treatment.

Radiation didn't come with out any issues.  She is struggling with some lower back pain.  This could be a result of the treatment apparatus she wore and being a bit confined for those appointments, as well as the weakness from healing.  She has been doing everything she can to be more mobile and gain some strength back.

Recently, Krissy joined the LIVESTRONG program offered at the YMCA.  It is a granted program that helps cancer survivors work towards physical health goals by guiding them through exercise while encouraging a community of survivorship that offers support and understanding to those who have expieranced a cancer diagnosis.  As expected, she has made some good friends and they LOVE Krissy in the program.

As Krissy begins the maintenance phase of treatment, she still has a bumpy road to cover.  Her maintenance treatment has her taking two different meds.  The first is an estrogen surpressant medication.   This is needed to help prevent estrogen from feeding any potential cancer cells that may be dormant or undetectable in her.

The second medication is an oral chemotherapy.   (I know we hate seeing that word).  This oral chemo is meant to kill off any potential cells that may be hiding and trying to thrive.  Because its chemo, Krissy may be feeling a little more run down.   She needs to be cautious when around others to protect her immune system.  So, if you or some one in your family is sick, please consider not exposing your illness to Krissy or her family.  Dr's encourage her to live as normally as possible, but in risky situations, mask, wash hands, and use good judgement.  She will be monitored every two weeks to make sure she is tolerating the medications well and that her counts are strong.

This maintenance regiment is considered customary for Krissy's Cancer diagnosis.  This was all part of her plan, and would be the same type of plan for anyone with her diagnosis.  This doesn't make this process for her any easier, but it reassuring that this is considered normal course of treatment.  Science has proven that following this series of treatment, significantly reduces any chances for any recurrence.   Don't you love science???  I'd love to add, that FAITH has proven a powerful resource, so keep those prayers for the family coming!!!

Down the road Krissy will be getting a series of shots procedure to help her in her recovery. Again, this is expected and planned, and when completed, she will celebrate!

Please keep your prayers, cards, meals, kind words and prayers coming to this family.  They are so grateful to you all for supporting them, and even though the road ahead is bright, it will be bumpy, twisty and uncertain, and they need us all to lift them up!  KEEP PRAYING KRUSADERS!!!!

Together we are KRISSY'S KRUSADERS!!!!
