Journal entry by Jen Ward

Kris finished her first round of Chemotherapy today - the first of 8 that she’ll have to go through.  She is being treated with Chemo to shrink the tumor, and this stage will be followed by 5 weeks of daily radiation and chemotherapy.  The final stage of her treatment will be surgery to remove the tumor and establish clear margins.

The chemo is administered over 2 days via a Chemo pump.  She should feel pretty well during the actual chemo, but will feel the worst on the 3 days following disconnect.  She’ll then have a week for her body and blood counts to recover before the next round.  As she goes through each progressive round, she will become weaker and more fatigued, with the toughest days coming during radiation.

She’s doing really well right now, and has a fantastic attitude.  She has a wonderful care team at UC Health who is surrounding her with support and world class care, and everyone feels very optimistic about the outcome.

Your calls, text and tremendous support have been amazing, and our entire family feels so blessed and fortunate to have such wonderful friends.  Thank you thank you thank you!!!
