Journal entry by Kevin Ford

As Michael and I sit at the Philly airport awaiting our flight home to Denver, please indulge this personal note from us to Kevin’s loving and welcoming family and friends of Delaware and of Denver and beyond.

We were so moved by the Catholic funeral mass and celebration of life with participation by so many of Kevin’s Maguire family members. Fr. Hynes weaving of Kevin’s words from his CVV testament video into the homily was incredibly special. The responsive music by Kevin, Clare, and Ellen will always remain in our hearts and memory as a beautiful reflection of Kevin’s love for live music. With only a thought, we are still brought to tears by Aunt Cathy’s heartfelt eulogy to Kevin and comforting description of the warm embraces of Gram/Nyra.

At the service and subsequent Marshallton and Bellefonte gatherings afterward, we are so touched by the warm and caring expressions of love offered by family, friends of Nyra and her extended family, and high school friends of Kevin. The pain you are all experiencing at Kevin’s loss when he lived at such a great distance from the “hearth” of the family and community is unfathomable.

We cannot begin to express the appreciation we feel for the acceptance and compassion by being adopted into the McGrellis family of Nyra, Ann, Andy Jr., Pop-Pop/Andy Sr. and Gram Diane. We love you all very much.

Andy and Diane graciously offered their Bethany Beach home for an overnight stay so that we could retrace the steps of our previous Delaware beach tour with Kevin in 2019. We visited Bethany, Dewey and Rehoboth, releasing a bit of Kevin's ashes to the surf at Dewey beach where the three of us stayed during our prior visit. Big hug and thank you, Andy and Diane.

The strength of all our love for Kevin is reflected in the easy bond we made to all of you dear and wonderful souls. We welcome any opportunity in the future to share a few moments of connection if you find yourself in the Mile High City and we will reach out to you if we find ourselves in our favorite seaside escape of Delaware.

As described by unofficial sister of the McGrellis family, close friend Tara, Kevin's life spanned many tribes...the Maguires, the McGrellises, the A.I. du Pont Tigers, the Dayton crew, CVV, Dental Lifeline, Twist & Shout, and DGM Chorus. Please believe that the incredible waves of neverending love we all feel for Kevin can reverberate between us in those moments when we need it most to bring us healing and peace. Simply close your eyes and know that we are all encircled by and sending that love to each other always.

Love and hugs, Kevin & Michael
