Journal

Hi friends & fam!

I realized not everyone follows us on social media, so I thought I would do one final update here.  We have been home for a little over a month now and what a blessing it has been. We’ve been busy, to say the least. Lots of follow-up appointments, the start of the holiday season, and making up for lost time!

Major Milestones:

-Knox getting to meet our close family (we still have to keep our circle very very small to avoid him catching something). Getting to share our little miracle with our family has been so special.

-Knox meeting the dogs. Ohhhhh melt my heart. Both dogs are absolutely in love with their new brother. Bruce in particular is quite obsessed. I swear he thinks it’s his baby!

-Being home for his first Thanksgiving! Tears of joy were definitely shed. Thankful is an understatement for what we feel having our little guy at home (happy & healthy)!

-Cleared by the eye doctor! Knox has no eye issues and has been cleared of any of the preemie related issues (which is a miracle in and of itself)!

-Cleared by the audiologist! We didn’t publicly share, but Knox failed both NICU hearing tests. We knew deep down that he could hear us but we were very worried nonetheless. At the KU audiologist, Knox passed both ears! This was a HUGE relief!

-Knox graduated from oxygen! This is probably the biggest milestone for us.. He turned a corner shortly after we got home and has done amazing without it! Let me tell you, having no cords is AMAZING!

-Knox rolled over! This milestone is mind blowing. He’s only 1 month old (adjusted age*…I’ll explain that in a second), so rolling over is a big accomplishment! We are so proud of him!
*Adjusted age is essentially how old he would be if he was born on his due date (November 19th). In preemies like Knox, they base development and milestones on adjusted age (we basically consider the  NICU time to be time in the womb). At some point, usually around age 3, he should be caught up developmentally. So, he’s 4 months old but only 1 month adjusted. Meaning, his development and size is as if he is a 1 month old.

-Breastfeeding!!!! This is something that was very important to me and I wasn’t sure we would be able to do it. He did ok in the NICU with breastfeeding, but focused on taking bottles as that is what would get us home the quickest. Since being home, Knox has really taken to breastfeeding! He takes both bottles and breast. Truly amazing!

I just want to say thank you to everyone who supported us and loved on us the last 4 months. Knox is such a miracle baby; it’s truly mind blowing how well he is doing. We are forever grateful for the support we received from you all!
Keep up with us on social media!

Love,

Josh, Sarah and baby Knox
