Klint’s Story

Site created on July 11, 2023

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.

Life has changed dramatically for the Fishers in the last three weeks. After having a minor cold for a couple of weeks, Klint noticed some health changes that were concerning and took himself to Urgent Care on Monday the 26th of June. After blood tests, CT scan, MRI, more blood tests, developing jaundice, having a stent placed in his pancreatic duct and a biopsy, Klint was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. Deep breaths, that's a hard sentence to write. While there are still more scans and tests to be done, the oncologist in Bozeman thinks his cancer is at Stage 1B. We are thankful to have caught it, we think, before it spread to his liver. Right now, we are waiting and waiting and waiting. He will likely need another MRI to look closer at the liver. We are waiting to hear. Surgery and chemotherapy is the best option for full remission. The oncologist told us yesterday that Klint will likely have 4-6 months of Chemotherapy every two weeks either before or after surgery to remove the cancer. We are waiting to hear from the surgeon to find out if surgery is possible at this point; there is concern because his mass is pushing on his portal vein, increasing surgical risk. Also, the doctor said he will have a Whipple procedure, which is a pretty intense surgery and recovery. Klint has the advantage of good overall health and his young age. Right now....we are just overwhelmed and numb; this is all somewhat surreal. We want to get this fight going. But right now, we are waiting. Please pray for peace in the waiting and wisdom in decision making.  We are grateful for many things right now. We caught this early; Klint is young (yes!!); we have an incredible support system for Klint, myself and our boys (men); the pandemic and all of its limitations are mostly in the past; we live in a country where he has access to the care he needs; and God is bigger than EVERY SINGLE PART OF THIS.
