Kirsten’s Story

Site created on October 30, 2020

A few months ago Kirsten began to experience difficulty with “word finding,” the ability to pull up a word or find the correct word when speaking.  She consulted her doctor and received initial treatment for this condition however it continued to worsen. Kirsten was diagnosed with a brain tumor on Wednesday, October 25th.

The good news is that this is on the surface of her brain and not within the brain. On Wednesday, November 4th, Kirsten will have surgery to remove a piece of her skull, drain the fluid and remove the cyst/tumor.  The surgeon is confident that he will be able to remove it all. Her speech symptoms and “word finding” difficulties should resolve when the area is drained and the mass removed.

She will be in ICU for a few days.  This is normal procedure and the length of time just depends on her needs.

Since screen time (phone, iPad, laptop, etc.) is medically discouraged, if you’d like to reach out, please send Kirsten a note/card.  Please do not send flowers.

Kirsten’s address: Kirsten Bachmann, 1230 Twin Branches Way, Apt #100, Raleigh, NC 27606

Many of you have asked how you can assist Kirsten. The GoFundMe page has been created to assist with medical expenses and lost wages during her time of recovery. Click on "Ways to Help" above, then click on the GoFundMe button on the left side of the page.

While she is grateful for any financial gifts, after Kirsten’s return home and during her recovery she will also need help with groceries, meals, errands, dog walking, etc. More information to follow soon.

This news is heartbreaking and shocking.  One of Kirsten’s many endearing charms is her positivity.  We encourage us all to be hopeful, think positive thoughts, continue to love her and pray for her and Cole. She is a special person, a great mom, and a good friend to us all.

We intend to use this site to keep you all updated on her progress.

Sincerely, Lisa and Robin
