Journal entry by Leah Woods Powell

On 12/29/2018
mom, Kimberly (Cook) Woods went to Southview Emergency Room. She was having issues with her breathing. The initial findings were that she had a pleural effusion, fluid around her lung, on her left side. After being transported to Kettering Medical Center to have the chest tube inserted they found that her lung had completely collapsed. Still uncertain at this point as to where the fluid is coming from. With the left lung in the state that it was in she was also put onto oxygen as well as IV fluid to keep her hydrated.

On 12/30/2018 a PIC was put in for use with the IV's so that she did not have to be poked multiple times. Also at this point her urination had stopped. They put an external catheter in place to help. It was however not helping. The external catheter was then removed an internal one was put into place. Now we were seeing results. Chest tube was draining a lot of fluid at this point, but doctors were still trying to determine the cause of it all.

She spent 4 days in the CTCU (cardio thoracic critical unit). On new years day she was moved to a regular room. All hooked up still to the chest tube, oxygen, catheter and now a new medication. What for you may ask. On top of everything else at this point they found a blood clot in her left arm.
