Journal entry by Amy Fladeboe —
So much has happened since the last post! I was in the hospital for only one night and then went home to my amazing sister Ali’s house to recover. Pathology came back a few day after surgery and it showed that there was a secondary cancer, originally thought to be the same as the main tumor, but turns out to be a totally different kind of cancer! What the heck!! Good news though - it was small and contained and had not spread! Why beat one type of cancer when you can beat TWO!?!
The great news out of surgery and chemo is that I am officially in REMISSION!!! I still have a long road ahead with immunotherapy infusions at MN Oncology every three weeks through the end of the year, a new medication to keep the cancer from coming back and starting radiation in July for 4-6 weeks. It feels absolutely fantastic to know that all the cancer is gone and my continued treatment is much easier to handle than chemo!
Overall I have been healing really quickly, until this week when I got an infection that paused recovery and reconstruction. I hope to bounce back fast and get back on track next week. I’m looking forward to hanging out with all my friends and family and celebrating life!
