Kevin’s Story

Site created on December 1, 2020

Welcome to our Caring Bridge Site. We will be using this as a place to keep family and friends updated in one place. In October, Dad went in for his first colonoscopy. In the recovery room, he was told that they had found cancer. He was scheduled for surgery on November 3, 2020, at which time they removed ¼ of his Colon and surrounding lymph nodes. A biopsy was done and showed that the cancer had spread into the lymph nodes.

As many of you know, Dad’s mother, Jennifer, passed away from cancer at age 56. Out of an abundance of caution and due to the spreading to the lymph nodes, he will begin chemo on December 16, 2020. He will have Chemotherapy once every two weeks for 6 months with two different types of Chemo drugs.

2020 has been a hard year already. With Covid precautions, a cancer diagnosis brings additional worries to our family. Dad remains hopeful that once chemotherapy is done he will be back to normal life, and appreciates all the support from friends, family, and coworkers. We may be apart, but keeping him in your thoughts and prayers as well as phone calls and texts are always appreciated.

Thank you,

Sydney, Baylee, Kevin, and Michelle

Journal entry by Michelle Thomas

Kevin surgeries are completed. The first surgeon found that Kevin’s left kidney is completely obstructed and so after many tries at opening the blockage they were unable to add the stent as planned and will have to come up with an alternative plan in a couple of days. The second surgeon then took over to open the bowel obstruction and and went ahead and did an ileostomy. Kevin should be able to have his NG tube removed and be able to eat and drink. The whole process took about 3 hours. Thank you so very much for your prayers and please continue to keep him in your prayers
