Newest Update

Journal entry by Brandi Van De Brake

More than 4 months, and Kevin is doing pretty well. ☺️  He’ll probably be mad at me for posting this, but everyone asks how he’s doing, so I wanted to share an update.

One of his biggest symptoms right now is lack of smell and reduced taste. He also has a “sensation” in his nose/sinus area that ENT has told him is normal in his situation.
He describes it not as a smell, but a feeling like he’s snorted something irritating like the bottom of the fireplace. 😖 That would be so irritating, and it’s all the time for him!
The ENT Dr. told him the initial impact on his skull probably severed nerves connected to his nose functions. We are hopeful this is temporary. This was new news to us this last week. I’m sure it won’t be the last “new” finding we find out.

He is also being referred to UW/Harborview Memory and Wellness clinic. Just making sure we’re not missing anything.

He has yet to really look at all the photos and has not really watched any of the videos from his hospital stay. I don’t know if he’s not interested or not ready. Either way, it’s fine. I tell him stories about little things from back then, and he always says, “I don’t remember that.” He also always wants to make sure I’ve responded and shared our appreciation to everyone that sent well wishes! On his behalf, Please accept our sincere thanks and appreciation for all the prayers, care and concern sent our way.

Oh yeah, and he is really trying to convince every person he can that he absolutely should be able to ski this year. NOT going to happen!!
That really fires him up that was taken from him.

Other than that, he’s working very hard at work, and chilling at home for the most part. Noah is pretty much Kevin’s make-shift therapy dog. They are best friends, I swear!
We have all the boys home right now for Thanksgiving, and we LOVE it!! 💜
We are ready for 2020!
