On April 11, Kevin had an appointment with his Family Physician due to trouble breathing, pain on his right side, which caused him to not sleep and feelings of claustrophobia. The doctor listened to his lungs and thought they sounded clear but ordered an Ultrasound to get a better understanding on what may be causing his symptoms. Kevin went to his Ultrasound appointment on April 17, and was sent to the ER due to finding fluid on his lungs, heart and he had a hard time breathing.

On April 20th , Kevin had surgery called Pericardiocentesis (1qt of fluid removed from around heart) & Pleural Effusion Surgery (2qts of fluid removed from around lungs). The surgery went well, but on the way back to his room, he started having a hard time breathing and turning blue, so he was intubated. After doing further testing, they found that his right lung collapsed after surgery and had a mass on it. The staff had a hard time stabilizing his oxygen levels and blood pressure so they couldn’t remove the ventilator. On April 23rd, the ventilator had been removed.  Kevin had chest x-rays to check for possible fluid due to his drainage tubes from surgery were not draining a sufficient amount. The X-ray results showed more fluid in a different quadrant of the right lung then where the drainage tube was located. A separate tap had to be in order to remove the fluid. 1qt of fluid was removed during the tap.

On April 26, Kevin was hit with the word that no one likes to hear...Cancer. The fluid from the heart and lung came back positive for Adenocarcinoma (Lung Cancer). On April 28th, he had an MRI of his brain to see if cancer had spread. Thankfully, it showed that the cancer had not spread to his brain but showed signs of a small stroke, which the doctors believe happened after his surgery. On May 2nd, Kevin was discharged from the hospital and relieved to finally go home.
