Kevin’s Story

Site created on June 24, 2018

Hi there and Happy Summer of 2018!  If you’re reading this then you know that Kevin has started an important journey to have his heart ‘updated’!
Kevin was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HOCM) in January and with the help of friends we found our way thru Atlanta Piedmont/Emory and Cleveland Clinic doctors. Smart doctors! Wonderful smart loving friends! We are forever indebted.

This week we head to Cleveland for open heart surgery (a septal myectomy with possible valve replacement)  on Friday July 20th.     Joanne will update pre/post surgery at least for a few days on this site, and if you'd like to private message her - the number is 404 694 0243.  I will be 'off the grid', for likely a week or so.... With the expectation of success, we hope to be back in Atlanta in August.

Feel free to share this with others -- we are trying to keep our friends and family informed, and thank you for your love and support. It makes a difference to know we have a wonderful team of friends and family rooting and praying for you! .... We are very grateful...  J&K.

ps.... I'll be happy to read any messages to Kevin .... if you send here, or to my cell, or his... after a week, I'm sure he'll be back up and running!

ps. we have donated for this website, and the requests from caring bridge are not able to be deactivated from us. :)

Journal entry by Joanne Shufelt

For those who are not friends with Kevin on FB I thought you might like to see his Tuesday post. We intentionally didn’t post since we were away from the house for a few weeks. Kevin couldn’t have been happier to get home. It was his first ‘real smile’ in weeks. And it’s made a difference. Still working on strength. Still working on pain but it’s all better. Off the heavy meds on to Tylenol. Happy to see the Beauregard dog. Not sure who was happier - Beau or Kevin. We’ll lay low thru the weekend but I think next week will be another step forward. I’m back at work and Brian and Jess are helping with lunches and dinners and shopping and errands. We are very thankful. Thank you for taking this journey with us. We are very grateful. 😎 the sun is shining on us in Atlanta. I plan that this is our last post on caring bridge. XxxooooJ&K. Ps. Calls and texts to KEVIN welcome.
