Dear Friends and Family,

On August 1st, Kerry was admitted to Clear Lake Methodist hospital after a visit to the ER that resulted in the findings of four abdominal masses.

August 12th, she underwent an invasive cytoreductive surgery: a full hysterectomy, hemicolectomy, appendectomy, cholecystectomy, omentectomy, and lymphadenectomy, as well as the removal of the 4 masses and ascites.

August 26th, Kerry learned the devastating news that the pathology from the surgery resulted in the diagnosis of Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (PMP), a very rare appendix cancer. The specimens were then sent to MD Anderson where the diagnosis was confirmed.

On Sept 27th, Kerry had her first appointment at MD Anderson. She had extensive bloodwork and 4 new CT Scans. The new scan show two additional tumors: one surrounding the liver and one surrounding the spleen. These tumors are high grade, aggressive tumors with moderate to severe margins. This changes the plan somewhat. Kerry will need to undergo a very aggressive chemo treatment plan over the course of the next 3 months to control and shrink these tumors, offering a better success rate for the HIPEC surgery. She will go back after 6 treatments. If the tumors stay the same size or shrink they will then go ahead with the HIPEC surgery.

If you know Kerry, you know she is an incredibly strong woman, purposeful and determined in everything she sets out to do, and this is no exception!  She is an exceptional, devoted single mother that loves her boys more than life!  She has maneuvered through this new journey with an unwavering faith, optimism, hope, and determination.

We have setup a GoFund Me page o support Kerry and her boys, to lighten the burden of everyday expenses, medical expenses, and upcoming treatments.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Ashley Cyran

Hello Team Kerry!

It’s been a year….

I genuinely felt after a year, my life would be back to “normal”, however it’s far from it, unfortunately.

After an extensive recovery, I attempted to return to work in October. Upon returning, I found myself extremely frustrated. I couldn’t do a job and function as I had for so many years. I wasn’t retaining what I needed to be a successful member of a vivacious team. I was slow, forgetful, and unable to keep up in a vigorous environment I had thrived in many years of my life. Not being able to be an asset and go getter took a huge toll on my well being, my mental health, and my reality. Having to accept you’ll never be what you once were is very damning in many ways. My anxiety was heightened, and the stress began to take a toll on my health as well.

I developed another pulmonary embolism in my lung, heart palpitations, black outs, among other things. My doctors and I decided on taking another leave of absence to focus on getting well. After my leave of absence I also learned that due to the surgery, Ive developed a hiatal hernia and hypothyroidism. In addition to severe sleep apnea, and the increase symptoms of severe surgically induced menopausal symptoms. Due to the blood clot, I’m not able to take any hormonal medications to help treat these symptoms.

Currently, I’m at a loss and find myself falling into a sinking sand and suffocation of depression and defeat.
