Ken Wade’s Story

Site created on June 3, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated at one time. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. We started this journey in October with a routine physical when my blood tests came back irregular with low white blood cells.
I was referred to a hematologist/oncologist for extensive blood work. My numbers declined.  Further testing was order with a body scan and bone marrow biopsy,
At this time I was diagnosed with MGUS and SMOLDERING CANCER CELLS.  Meaning cancer cells were like embers. I was then ordered to do blood work every 3 months to keep an eye on them.
Month 3 was May and I went in for blood work and it came back positive for multiple myeloma bone marrow cancer.
Today was my second bone marrow biopsy to compare with the previous done in February. We will get the results Monday June 10th. These results will determine the strength of chemo I’ll start at the end of June and also determine if I’ll need a bone marrow transplant.
We are taking the steps day by day and won’t have any more information until June 10th.
I have no symptoms so far since this was caught early.
I strongly encourage you all to get a physical. If I weren’t diligent about my annual examines  I wouldn’t know I was positive for cancer.
We will update this page as we have answers.

Journal entry by Ken Wade Diebold

Well it has been one hell of a year since I left the Hospital with no hair and New Bone Marrow!

Since 8/9/20  I have received  2 of my 3 rounds of Vaccines (Hepatitis B, Hib, Polio, PCV13, DTaP) to get my immune system up to modern standards. No worries I got my COvid 19 Vaccine added to that list.  My daily regimen for the past year has been a small chemo pill I take for 21 days on then 7 days off this helps keep any remaining cancer at bay, if things keep going well I do this for one more year.  I see my oncologist on my 7 days of rest to do labs to make sure all is in check and my last check in my labs came back excellent

Sorry I haven't been posting. much here which is a great thing because there is not much to report. Dealing with a little Chemo brain and numbness in my feet but I am back to working out, eating right (too much) sleeping thru the night and loving life.

What I have learned  is life it too short to sweat the small stuff and  dont put off anything you want to do till tomorrow because you dont know what tomorrow will bring you.

I thanked my GP for finding my cancer at my 1 year physical 2018 and catching it real early  helped me fight this thing.  Thanks again to all our friends who have checked on us during this journey we appreciate you all.  Shoot me a text or phone call  to check on me or just say HI whenever you feel the urge I plan to be here a long time!

((\^..^/)). Ken Wade
