Kent’s Story

Site created on August 9, 2022

On the weekend of August 6th, 2022 Kent had an undiagnosed mild stroke. The following Monday he fell at home and had some other stroke symptoms, so he was admitted to St Charles Hospital in Bend. The doctors there said he was having another stroke at that time and found a blockage in his carotid artery and blood clot in his brain.  -  https://www.givesendgo.com/wiebers

What’s been happening lately??

Kent went to a basketball referee clinic today!! He is planning on reffing some basketball this season, so we are hoping he will be able to do so. He has been hitting the gym regularly…elliptical, pickle ball, & weights. Kent still has OT and speech therapies each week. He is working on fine motor tasks and his left arm, hand and fingers are still annoyingly numb and feel cold all the time. He has to wear gloves and mittens a lot!! He is also working on mental/physical multitasking skills which is difficult.

BUT, he has been discharged from PT because he exceeded all their diagnostic tests and is considered “normal” now…lol 😂 He has driven to Bend and back which is a HUGE accomplishment!! We went to a fundraiser walkathon last week for stroke awareness and met some great people. Also, Kent attended a Zoom with stroke warriors last week. We are trying to build connections with others who have been there.

I love my job and overall, we are doing well. Our sanity lies in taking each day as it comes. This is not an easy road and recovery takes a lonnngggg time. For us, we wake up and instantly remember that life is not the same. Kent is in healing recovery mode and I am the bread winner for now. Our roles have reversed and we are still coping with this change.

Normal day tasks for Kent are frustrating like buttoning his pants, which can take five minutes. We have found our new normal, and we find happiness in the day, but life is NOT easy. The Lord is our strength; without Him as our anchor, we would sink. With Him, all things are possible.

Sorry it has been so long since I’ve written. The daily grind is hard and yet, we want to be positive. If any of you are in crisis or struggling, please reach out to us. We would love to share how we are managing. We need each other in times of difficulty!❤️
