Kent’s Story

Site created on October 19, 2018

First, if you haven't had the luck to meet my wife Danielle, she is the one making me look good in all of our pics together.  She keeps me on my toes and is my rock.  She gave me our most precious gifts, our two daughters Zoe and Sydney.  These three are my everything and will be my constant motivation to beat this cancer!!  The background photo was at a church get together at one of the other parent's homes over the summer.  I chose that picture as it really captures the joy we have in being included with such great families and community.   We have been so fortunate to have this community welcome us in and we couldn't be happier that Zoe is attending Kindergarten at Christ the King Catholic School (right across the street from our house).

I was first diagnosed with breast cancer in October of 2018.  I found an Initial lump on one breast and in a lymph node in the armpit just through the process of normal showering.  Treatment options are still being determined as they try to get a handle on the current state of things and the stage.   A full body PET scan showed two lymph nodes just above each lung that are of concern.  Bronchoscopy performed on 10/22/18 and they have sent samples off to pathology.

On 10/23, I had an echocardiogram to make sure my heart is ready for Chemo and I was cleared to proceed.

At the same visit, I also had a chemo port  (device that allows for easier administration of the chemo drugs) surgically installed in my right upper chest under the skin.  All went well with no adverse reactions.

My next visit is Monday, 10/29 with my oncologist and the plan is to start chemo on that day.

We have faith that we have found gifted individuals at the IU Simon Cancer Center that will see us through this (Oncologist - Dr Brian Schneider, Dr Khalil Diab - Pulmonary side for the biopsy and Breast surgeon - Dr Carla Fischer for down the road.)

We wanted to have a clearer picture before sharing but I think now is the right time to share with my extended friends and family.

We believe in the power of prayer and positive vibes.  We have already felt that from those that we have shared with an appreciate it so much!!  I currently feel fine and there is honestly nothing that I or we need currently, but we greatly appreciate you lifting us up in this time of uncertainty (that is the hardest part right now).

Newest Update

Journal entry by Kent Campbell

Health Update – Unfortunately, we received a setback in my cancer treatment. They recently found presence of cancer cells in my left pubic bone as well as a lymph node in that area.

I’ll be switching over to four new medications (Lupron, Letrozole, Ibrance and Xgeva) and will be on those indefinitely. In addition, I’ll get radiation (5 treatments) to the pubic bone to decrease the pain in that area. I have already undergone a bone biopsy so they could get a good sample to utilize in a possible future treatment called Precision Genomics (cool cutting-edge stuff available at IU if we need yet another treatment option).

I’ll get re-scanned in 3 months to see how effective the new treatment has been.

As always, it is a tough road but during my initial battle, I can confidently say the support and love we received was incredible!! That is really such an understatement. We were blown away at the generosity offered to us.

My ask is that you lift us up (especially my incredible wife) as we move into this next phase of beating cancer!!
