Kenny Matt’s Story

Site created on May 23, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

On May 22, Kenny and his son, Kyler, were moving bulls.  Kenny drove his ATV wide to get around a bull and hit a utility pole. Kyler tended to him and got Kenny’s wife Cindy, who is an EMT, to resuscitate him.  The Enning ambulance transported him to Monument Hospital in Rapid City and he is in the ICU.  Kenny has multiple face, skull and back fractures. He had a pneumocele or air pressing on the brain.  He was life flighted to Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, CO. He came out of his coma 10 days after the accident and was, also, taken off the ventilator at that time. He has since been moved out of the icu and has had facial reconstruction surgery where they rebuilt his left orbital, built up both cheek bones with plates, and reattached his jaw.
On July 1st, Kenny was moved to Craig Hospital. It is one of the best rehab facilities for spinal and traumatic brain injury recovery in the nation.
Please pray for Kenny’s recovery and for peace for the family.

Journal entry by Crystal Davis

Mom sent me a video of Dad walking in Canyon Lake Park. Yes!!! Walking!!! Last I knew, he was still in the wheelchair and they were trying to get him to use the walker......which he threw off the porch cuz he didn't want to use it. The video made me cry. I am so proud of how far he has come and the support my mother has shown. She is an amazingly strong woman. I know alot of you have asked for updates but I've been crazy busy at work. I will ask Mom to update me, also. Lol.
