Journal entry by Ellen Baggs —
We have reached the six month point fighting this monster. Stage IV Metastatic Melanoma.
Sometimes it feels like one step forward and three steps back. First fighting the anemia. 14 units of blood later that seems to be fixed. Then partial surgery on the tumor leaving an open wound that developed Staff infection. 2 hospital stays and 3 months of the wound vac to heal only to be told the radiation or Opdivo treatments have caused Glaucoma.
More doctor visits. Injections into the eye to bring down the pressure ( had reached 59). Three different eye drops 3-4 times a day added to an already large amount of medicines. Cleared after 3 weeks only to be told now the optic nerve is swelling. Probably caused by the immunotherapy that is really our only option for fighting the monster.
It’s a difficult place to be when you are told you have to make a decision of discontinue the treatment to possibly save your eyesight or continue and likely go blind.
We know God has a plan and each setback has a purpose. Just asking for prayers to carry on.
