Ken’s Story

Site created on August 12, 2023

Ken's cancer journey started on July 1st, 2023 with an episode of severe epigastric pain from acid reflux.  It required an ER visit to get the pain under control.
Tests done did not show any other definite cause of the severe pain, so a scope of his esophagus (EGD) was recommended.  Unfortunately, his tests and biopsy showed Barretts esophagus/esophageal cancer, located at the juncture of the esophagus and the stomach.  He has been referred to Mayo Clinic, and we are waiting for word on further testing and recommendations for treatment.

We appreciate your prayer support and words of hope and encouragement.

Journal entry by Ken and Karen Janssen

Dear friends and Family---

Psalms 103: 2,3 says.."Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things He does for me. He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases." We continue to praise God for His continued and miraculous  healing!!!He created our awesome medical team and gave them the wisdom to know how to treat so many illnesses. Unfortunately, Ken had Covid about 2 1/2 weeks ago and that  slowed his progress in gaining strength and feeling good, but with treatment of Paxlovid and steroids, he has now recovered and is feeling much better.  He tells me that he has now had 7 days in a row of feeling good and going to work!!! He is so happy to be able to go to work and not be so worn out!!! We now have his next appointments in Rochester---they are on May 23rd and he will have a CT scan and also a follow up appointment with his Radiation Oncologist.  We ask that you pray with us for wonderful results. Thanks for your continued prayers.

A new song that I heard recently on KLOVE that I really like is; Counting My Blessings sung by Seph Schlueter...Hope you love it too...

thanks, Karen (and Ken)
