Journal entry by Kendra and Graeme Brouwer

One time I will apologize here because this should have been written sooner, but now we're here and ready to share. Some of you know, some don't but I have been at the #SanfordairBnB since Thursday the 29th. I was having some trouble controlling pain and we decided a stop at the Emergency Dept was the best place to go. Following that I was moved to a critical care room in the cardiac unit where I would be monitored closely for my elevated heart rate and low blood pressure. The fact that Dr. Lamfers became my doctor at that point was purely a God thing and we are so grateful for his care, support, and wisdom as we continue to navigate this stage 4 business. Thank you so much Randy!

The first 2 days were lots of pokes and bags of stuff after it was determined I had sepsis (infection in my blood), was continuing to retain fluid in my belly, and dealing with dehydration. That basically looks like round the clock care, lots of IVs and bags hanging from a pole and many many tubes to go along with it. I just have to say I have had some incredible nurses!

The next few days have shown improvements, less bags, pokes, meds. We seem to be getting a better handle on pain and nausea. Also, we spent some very quality time with my dear friend Lauren who flew in from Chicago to be with me. She assisted with getting some very important documents finished and helped fill out forms and many other things. Her help was priceless, thank you dear friend!!

Current status... I am doing better. No more fever, sepsis, breathing better, much more mobile and free from cords and everything but oxygen for a solid part of the day! The plan is to have a more permanent drain placed for the fluid retention and find our best curve for pain management. I am hoping to spend some time at home but we also have Ava's House Hospice on the docket for as soon as I need it. Saying that "out loud" is mildly terrifying, but also very calming to speak it to you all. I had a friend who asked "how's your spirit" and my response was, IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL!!

Asks:
-prayers
-touch base every now and then with Graeme, he has a really full plate so don't overdo it cuz he wants to please everyone
-do something with my kiddos! they are always up for a little adventure
-come play with my puppy or take him for a walk
-financial contribution @kbhohu4 (venmo)
-more prayers, more hugs

We love you and are grateful for you all, hard to know what else to say. I welcome your questions and reach outs even if I'm not the best at finishing or following up. I'll do better! Watch for a opportunity to share your love notes for a little project a friend is working on...

Thank you, love you,
Kendra
