Kendra’s Story

Site created on July 1, 2023

In mid-June 2023, Kendra noticed a lump in her breast. Luckily, she already had a routine checkup scheduled just a couple days later, and coincidentally, it was the same day of the week that her clinic in Madison had people onsite to do the imaging she needed. This was the beginning of a whirlwind of activity -- the next two weeks were packed with appointments and tests that Kendra faced with that quirky sense of humor that we all know and love. And although there were threats, no one got throat punched... at least not yet. 🙂

On Thursday, June 29th, Kendra learned her official diagnosis: Triple negative invasive ductal carcinoma, definitely stage 3, and possibly stage 4. That took the wind out of our sails a bit that day, but only momentarily. We're setting up this site to rally the troops, and help Kendra kick this thing. Because as Renn has said, his mom is 'tiny, but aggressive', so we know she's up to the challenge!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Dawn Hansen

Hello everyone!

Well, it's getting close to a month since my last update. Kendra is doing great. She's had another round of immunotherapy, and although she has had some minor side effects it has been SO much better than when it was coupled with chemo. She's been feeling pretty good and has her 'pep' back and has been VERY excited to be out and about again. Having to be so careful with her weakened immune system was hard on her -- she missed being around people and getting to do the things that we all take for granted in the moment. It's been so nice to see her genuine smile and be treated to her quick wit again. 😊 She has had a couple of preparatory appointments with the radiologist, but is waiting to find out when her radiation treatment will begin.

The biggest reason I wanted to post today is to say a HUGE thank you to each of you who attended and/or helped out with the benefit this last weekend. I know that Kendra and John are so touched, and felt the love from all of you. It is truly amazing what can be accomplished when we all come together. Thank you all, a million times over, for your love and generosity. Also, thank you to Atley's middle school who also raised funds -- you are all such a blessing.

Saying prayers of thanksgiving for each of you!
 ~Dawn
