Journal entry by Kendra Briggs —
So, sorry for the delay in posting an update. I appreciate all the text and phone calls to check in on me.
Update on breasts
Right breast is doing better it still has lots of healing to do but it is coming along slowly. The swelling is coming down and it is finally starting to feel like the other. Still have a drain on the right side, but hopefully that will come out next week. The PA said they pulled a lot of puss and fluid out of my body on this last surgery so she wanted the drain to stay in longer to help pull all the extra fluid.
Left breast is doing okay pulled the drain last week and now the skin won’t close around where the drain was so I have a big hole. Awesome!!!!
Some positive news would be I have been released to workout my lower body. I’m so excited about this!!! I think I have been in the gym every day this week. Walking, Riding stationary bike, even some weighted leg movements.
Chemo
The test we have been waiting for came back. I tested in the high range and have a about a 20% chance of return if I don’t do chemo. So, guess what I’m doing chemo!!!! Not happy about this but my percentage of return drops to less then 5% if I do the chemo. This is the first time in this whole process that I could get my numbers below 10%.
Not sure of exact start date but here is what I do know:
Chemo drugs I will be getting is called TC (you can look it up if ya want to know more).
I will do 4 treatments every 21 days.
Should start sometime this month or first of next.
Sadly I will loose my hair! Many of you know I have been growing my hair for a while and it’s the longest it’s ever been this is hard for me.
All revision surgeries will have to wait till after chemo.
As, I find out more information I will be happy to share with you all. This is some journey to be on and it just keeps going.
Starting to finally feel more normal for sure. I go to the gym, I drive, meet people for dinner or lunch, and enjoying time with my boys. I’m hoping to possibly return to work soon as well. Not sure if he will release me next week or the following. But now with the chemo I will need to work around all that as well.
Thank you for the continued prayers and support I can’t tell you how much that means to me and my family.
Patients and caregivers love hearing from you; add a comment to show your support.
