Kendra’s Story

Site created on May 31, 2019

Welcome to this CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.

“I have breast cancer” isn’t something I thought I would ever have to say to anyone in my lifetime especially to my husband plus my 9 and 6 year old sons.  But guess what that is not the case.  Breast cancer has struck both me and my mother at the exact same age and almost in the exact same time frame of our lives.  She was 38, I’m 38.  She had an 18 year old daughter, and I have 2 amazing boys at ages 6 and 9.   My mom will soon be celebrating 20 years cancer free on July 5th, 2019.  She is a true inspiration to my new walk of life and I will use her as an example everyday as this journey is just beginning.

I want to thank you all for the prayers , love, and support that have been pouring into me and my family.  I honestly haven’t felt so loved and cared for in all my life.  One of my clients stated that ”You have taken care of us for so long and done so much to help us with our lives.   That now Kendra it is time for you to receive that help and support from those you have impacted in all your years of taking care of others.”  I know she is right and I’m going to do my absolute best to let others help me and care for me and my family in this hard time of life.  For that is what we are dealing with a small part of our lives that will be impacted for a short time frame in the grand scheme of it all. God has been watching me from the day I was born and will continue to do so for everyday that I walk this earth.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Kendra Briggs

So, sorry for the delay in posting an update. I appreciate all the text and phone calls to check in on me.

Update on breasts
Right breast is doing better it still has lots of healing to do but it is coming along slowly.  The swelling is coming down and it is finally starting to feel like the other.  Still have a drain on the right side, but hopefully that will come out next week.  The PA said they pulled a lot of puss and fluid out of my body on this last surgery so she wanted the drain to stay in longer to help pull all the extra fluid.

Left breast is doing okay pulled the drain last week and now the skin won’t close around where the drain was so I have a big hole. Awesome!!!!

Some positive news would be I have been released to workout my lower body. I’m so excited about this!!! I think I have been in the gym every day this week. Walking, Riding stationary bike, even some weighted leg movements.

Chemo
The test we have been waiting for came back. I tested in the high range and have a about a 20% chance of return if I don’t do chemo. So, guess what I’m doing chemo!!!!  Not happy about this but my percentage of return drops to less then 5% if I do the chemo. This is the first time in this whole process that I could get my numbers below 10%.

Not sure of exact start date but here is what  I do know:
Chemo drugs I will be getting is called TC (you can look it up if ya want to know more).
I will do 4 treatments every 21 days.
Should start sometime this month or first of next.
Sadly I will loose my hair!  Many of you know I have been growing my hair for a while and it’s the longest it’s ever been this is hard for me.
All revision surgeries will have to wait till after chemo.

As, I find out more information I will be happy to share with you all. This is some journey to be on and it just keeps going.

Starting to finally feel more normal for sure. I go to the gym, I drive, meet people for dinner or lunch, and enjoying time with my boys.  I’m hoping to possibly return to work soon as well. Not sure if he will release me next week or the following. But now with the chemo I will need to work around all that as well.

Thank you for the continued prayers and support I can’t tell you how much that means to me and my family.
