Journal entry by Sarah Olson —
There hasn’t been anything to update lately which is great news. My mom has recovered from her heart issues, and my dad has been stable. We had an appointment today. They brought up hospice again to make sure we knew it was still an option. We’re going to get a few questions answered about whether he can have blood transfusions and how many. They just want to make sure that he’s not spending all of his energy getting blood tests twice a week. He is sleeping about 18 hours a day, but he’st still able to socialize. It’s often easier for people to come to them, so he can be comfortable at home, but they do enjoy going out to eat occasionally during non-peak hours.
We did ask what would happen if he’d stop transfusions, and it made me realize how that seems to be what’s keeping him alive at this point. He may not feel any different after he gets them anymore, but he needs to continue to get them while he can. We will go back and meet with his doctor in mid-June. We’re hoping for no changes at this point.
Please keep calling and stopping by anytime you can. Mondays and Fridays at this point are busier for them, but they love to see friends.
