Kelsey’s Story

Site created on November 7, 2022

So, on December 15th, in the last year of the 1900s, at 9:49 AM...

Nah. Just kidding.

Thanks for stopping by! This is my Caringbridge site, as you can see.

I am using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. Feel free to share far and wide with whomever you think would want to know or would be positively affected by reading about my *somewhat depressing and saddening, yet positive* journey.

In all seriousness, the support, words of hope, encouragement, and support from you all are incredibly appreciated and overwhelming in the best way. They really keep me going and help me remember in my darker moments that I am so loved, appreciated, valued, and can have a positive impact, even through something so surreal at times.

Thank you for being here!

Journal entry by Kelsey Weddig

IT'S MY ONE YEAR LUNGIVERSARY!

I can't believe it's been a year. It's flown by, and I think I've lived more life in the last year than I have in the previous 23. That's what it feels like, anyway.

There's not much to say other than that I'm forever grateful for just being able to live, and live a life I couldn't have begun to envision for myself a year ago, being rolled into the OR for what I knew was the start of something good.

Oh, also, thank you.

Thank you, Columbia's Lung Transplant Program, for taking a chance on me. Saving my life.

Thank you, to all of the LOVELY staff at NYP for helping me heal.

Thank you to my family for the support, which is endless.

Thank you to Mom and Dad, for giving up a few months of your life to help me get many more months of mine back.

And thank you, whoever is reading this, for the role you've played in my journey thus far. You helped me get here!

Pay it forward by signing up to be an organ donor if you aren't already. You may end up saving several lives in the process, and who knows? Maybe it'll be for the next Kelsey. https://www.organdonor.gov/sign-up

Stay happy and healthy (however that looks for you),

Kelsey
