Welcome to Kelly's CaringBridge website. We are using the site to keep family and friends updated in one place. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all your support, love and words of hope and encouragement.

Kelly is 36 years old and probably has the most inspiring medical history and attitude you will likely ever hear. She has had 3 high risk surgeries in the past 5 years.

1) 5 years ago, she was in a near fatal car accident and went paralyzed from the neck down resulting in an emergency spinal surgery (story here: https://m.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10106901758607488&id=26706792&set=a.834095184668&source=11

2) She had a secondary emergency spinal surgery Sept 2020 when her degenerating disks above her first spinal fusion were pushing into her spinal cord.

3) December 29, 2020, Kelly underwent an awake brain operation to remove as much of a recently discovered brain tumor.  Following surgery it was confirmed she has Stage 3 brain cancer (anaplastic astrocytoma grade 3) Since this surgery she has learned to walk again and is currently learning to function in life again, reprograming her brain through neuro therapies via OT, PT and speech. Kelly is now fighting to kick cancer's butt and reclaim her life again. Kelly will NEVER GIVE UP and she will never lose her faith.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Kelly Koch

Our favorite Update of the Year, Mom.
.
Dec. Oncology Appt-
1) Vitals: Good
2) Weight: Mom lost 15 lbs (She already lost 40 from steriods)
3) Lungs: Sounding better!
4) Scans:
a) Look good
b) Slow gradual improvement of normal lung tissue coming through.
c) It's believed that Mom's melanoma tumor/cancer is totally dead & a lot of scar tissue is left in her lung.
d) There is a slow gradual remodeling of tissue happening in Mom's lung removing the dead scar tissue & dead tumor/cancer.  This is making Mom's lung a little healthier & will help her to breathe more over time. Her oncologist believes this will continue. She said we will keep praying for this to continue.
5) Mom still has to be mindful around sick people as her lung is very much so still healing & compromised.
6) Mom will have scans in 4 months (instead of formerly 3) & has graduated to now seeing the PA!
7) She can go to the dentist, but still has to wait on going to any other preventative care & will check-in next year to have this conversation again. Only if she has symptoms or problems she can get a mammogram or colonoscopy.
8) This was also the 1st oncology appointment Mom went to where she walked in & didn't use the transport wheelchair!
Dec. Pulmonology Appt -
1) Mom's using her oxygen less & is at a level 1
2) At Mom's last appt we learned there's a very good chance she will be coming off of oxygen sometime next year.
Dec Dermatology Appt -
1) Mom's doctor confirmed no signs of melanomas.
2) Good appt
.
In May 2022 we almost lost Mom multiple times & we were desperate & prayed for a miracle. Mom has fought so hard & we are so proud of her.
.
Thank you, Lord! Thank you medical team! Thank you family, friends, prayer warriors for our family! We couldn't be more grateful! And thank you, Mom for being a fighter!

Wishing you all a beautiful 2024!
