Journal entry by Kelley Hart —
Today I am grateful for great surgeons, strong pain meds and amazeballs friends!
Both my bilateral breast reconstruction and Oophorectomy went very well! Yesterday, I was wheeled into the OR at 7:45am, recovery by 11:15 and home by 3pm. It blows my mind what these surgeons can do in an hour to hour and a half!! Western medicine will never cease to amaze me. My dad was with me for the day; following surgery we went to lunch at Golden Dragon, grabbed my meds and headed home where my dear friend, Daniel was waiting with my girls to stay and take care of me and help with my mom responsibilities.
Both surgeries went really well, and I am shocked that my pain is more of discomfort, as long as I’m staying ahead of my pain with the meds. Still fairly swollen and haven’t had the guts to remove bandages yet to see the full picture. I just need to be sure to be very mindful of my restrictions and limit my activity. I don’t know what it is about recovery, but I get this overwhelming feeling that I need to be doing things (enter caretaker Daniel, it’s a good thing he’s here to put me in my place! 😅). I’ll be on weight restrictions for at least 4-6 weeks, as well as light activity including no housework or exercise, with lots of fluids and rest.
The weather is perfect for recovery - cooler temps, light breeze and pleasant enough to have the windows open for the perfect comfort level. I have a decent appetite and haven’t been sick. Definitely the most successful surgery to date (it’s about damn time)!!
And with that, I end my medicated babble. 😂
Until next time!
Xoxo, Kelley 💚
