Keith’s Story

Site created on January 7, 2024

On Thursday, January 4th Keith went into work early that morning to start prepping the food for the day at Pizza Man in Anoka. At 9:20 AM he collapsed from a heart attack and cardiac arrest and was thankfully found by a coworker 3 minutes later. Ambulance arrived 15 minutes later and started CPR. He was rushed to Mercy Hospital and they continued CPR for a total of an hour. Upon arriving, he was rushed to the cath lab where they were able to resuscitate him. The doctors in the cath lab stated he had a 99% blockage and had placed 2 stents. He was admitted into the ICU later that day, he started having "episodes" of body spasms and his eyes opening every couple seconds. Doctor confirmed from the EEG that he was having seizures. On Friday, he had a brain MRI and that showed severe brain damage (anoxic brain injury, diffuse anoxia of the cortex), along with kidney failure. He is currently on a ventilator and lots of other machines. Doctor stated with the severity of the injury to the brain from not having any oxygen or blood flow to the brain for that long period of time he will not be waking up.

As a family we consulted despite the devastating news the doctors gave us, we want to let his body rest and try again for another MRI on Monday morning. Even though this may seem like the impossible we're allowing for a miracle, god willing.

Out of respect of the family we ask that any messages, kind words, prayers be left on here and not contacting Dawn (wife) as she is not able to respond to everybody. Family and friends of Keith's are encouraged to come visit him. Keith is currently in the ICU on the 3rd floor (ROOM 3603) at Mercy Hospital. When arriving at the hospital let front desk know you're here to visit with Sylvester Daucsavage.

All updates will be left on this page!
