Journal entry by Erin Phillips —
We are elated to share that Mom is officially HOME!
After 57 days, Nancy finally slept in her own bed last night! She is very happy to be home and in her own space. It was truly a monumental day in her path to recovery.
With her arrival home, we are reminded of the long road we have ahead. Nancy will continue to work hard to get back to 'normal life'. Her balance has improved which allows her to walk on her own (with a companion next to her). Her long-term memory is sharp. Her vocal cords are as strong as ever and she is talking nonstop!!
She will be going to outpatient PT, OT, and Speech therapy for the foreseeable future. At home, she will be doing vision exercises, brain games, and basic household tasks. Pass along any of your favorite card or board games for us to buy and play with her! Nancy has LOVED reading the letters from you all and is eager for Christmas Card season to start!
Our plan for the next few weeks is to get Mom into a good routine and schedule. The family will be with her for the majority of December. Mom is excited to start catching up with friends in small doses. Michele and I are working on incorporating that into her weekly schedule.
During this holiday season, there is so much to be thankful for. For mom's life, health, and strength. For my dad's fortitude and strength. And for your support and encouragement. As a family, we are truly thankful.
With love,
Erin
