Kay’s Story

Site created on December 13, 2019

Welcome to Kay Parr's CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

To my dear friends,

Many of you know that about a month ago I began experiencing alarming abdominal bloating that I attributed to gas or something GI in nature. The problem was that nothing alleviated the symptoms and it was just getting worse. An abdominal x-ray was negative and I finally had an abdominal ultrasound on 12/11. I won't go into the problems I had getting anyone at my doctor's office to take me seriously. The ultrasound showed that the cause of my bloating was not gas but fluid. Malignant ascites.

On 12/12 I had a CT scan and  2 liters of fluid were taken out of my abdomen.  Immediately I felt 100% better than I had for ages.

On 12/13 I met my Gyn Oncologist who is wonderful. What I have is Stage IIIc Ovarian Cancer.

I will have a port inserted on 1/3/20 and begin chemo therapy for 9 weeks followed by surgery and then 9 more weeks of chemo.

I treasure your prayers and friendship more than ever right now. I have perfect peace that only God can give and I know that this will work out well.

I want to keep you posted so that is why my friend Jennifer set up this Caring Bridge site for me which I appreciate greatly. I would love to hear from all of you more than anything. Nothing much will be happening until after Christmas. I'm going to Wichita again this year to be with family.

I send you all my love and wishes for a blessed and joyful Christmas.

Journal entry by Jennifer Allen

Hello to all of Kay's dear friends,

Two years ago today, on December 13, 2019, Kay asked me to set up a CaringBridge site for her.

This was the very same day that she received her diagnosis - a sign that Kay knew from that very moment how important your support would be to her, as she started that difficult journey.  While we all hoped that the journey would end differently, you know how very much your thoughts and prayers meant to her along the way.

It has been an honor to share Kay's journey with you all, and I just wanted to thank you all for all the love you shared with Kay.

If anyone would like to contact me directly for any reason, my contact information is below.

Take care, all -

Love,
Jennifer
