Kay’s Story

Site created on October 18, 2022

On October 15th, Kay was involved in an accident that caused her to be hospitalized for severe burn injuries.  This site will be used to help communicate to all the people who care for her and love her.  Please extend this site to anyone who would like to keep up to date on her status and road to recovery.

At this time, for Kay's privacy and other reasons, we are choosing to not get into the specifics of the accident.  No one else was hurt in the accident and no one else was in the immediate area when it happened.  Thank you in advance for respecting that decision.

At this time, Kay is under sedation and is non responsive and that is expected to continue until middle or end of Nov.  She will have multiple months in the burn ICU and hospital.  Best guess is that it could be February or so before she can return home.  She will need a lot of support for that to happen and basic ADL (Activities of Daily Living) will require assistance initially.

Visitors to the hospital are limited to 2 total per day for infection protocol with COVID season approaches us. The hospital is also asking that people not call in for updates.  All updates are funneled through her POA Victoria and communicated via the Caring Bridge site.  We will post daily updates unless otherwise mentioned.

If you want to get cards, letter of support or other items to Kay, Victoria or Sofia, please send them to:

Kay, Victoria or Sofia Fraser
7406 Minnetonka Blvd
St Louis Park, MN 55426

Sofia or Victoria gather the items and any items for Kay are read out loud and discussed with kay then (when possible) placed in her room.

Newest Update

Journal entry by John Fraser

Good news! Kay will be returning home today. Healing as progressed to the point where hospitalization is no required but there is still a lot of care needed. While she is doing extremely well, she is able to return home with significant help from her friends and family with near 24 hour coverage that she has put in place.

I think it is also important to note that being home doesn't change that Kay is still wanting to focus greatly on physical and mental healing and is asking for a fair amount of privacy at this time. She will slowly increase external communication via normal channels but please let that be at her pace.

Infection concerns and even something as simple as a cold or more serious like COVID would also hinder healing so she is continuing to limit visitors. We appreciate in advance respecting her wishes despite everyone's excitement to communicate and see Kay thriving in the home environment.

She will have daily therapy that is outpatient so requests to help with transportation, meal prep or other duties may come. Family is stepping in locally and from overseas but even they will need a break at times or have other commitments. The goal is obviously for Sofia and Victoria to also help some but making sure they also have time to focus on school, dance, work and their own healing. The last 18 months has been a crazy time for them both.

There is a good chance this is the final update for a while so I want to thank people again for the support. We will talk to everyone soon!
