Kayla’s Story

Site created on August 24, 2023

We’re using this site to keep family and friends updated on Kayla’s recovery. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.

Kayla was in a rollover car accident on Tuesday night, August 22. She was ejected from the vehicle and sustained multiple injuries. By the grace of God, she’s alive!

She received trauma care and is currently in critical condition, in a medically induced coma. She is undergoing a few surgeries to address her internal bleeding and organ injuries. One kidney died from the force trauma and was removed.

She is receiving excellent care at Holy Cross Hospital.

It’s unclear what the days ahead will look like. She will be in the hospital for 2-3 weeks. Recovery will be months.

The best thing friends and family can do to help in this time is to PRAY. Pray for healing, strength, comfort, wisdom and guidance.

Journal entry by Leona Chavez

We’ve been fortunate to have some fun events this month that Kayla joined. We had a costume party on 10/14 and a client appreciation event hosted by our friend and realtor, Jeanine Walker, on 10/20 with a casino night. Kayla wore a costume on 10/14 and a dress son 10/20.

She had several doctor appointments and is starting physical therapy next week. She was super happy to get her wrist cast removed on 10/13. We expect she’ll go back to school by 11/1.
