Katie’s Story

Site created on November 19, 2018

We have set up this site after the overflowing support and prayers of so many people from all over the country. Our hope is to share her miraculous story as well as more easily keep everyone updated with her progress from here on out.

A little background: Katie was born with a rare metabolic disorder. She has had to spend too much time in the hospital in her life already. After fighting an especially nasty virus, her liver couldn’t keep working and she needed a transplant -- FAST. She was transferred from Children’s Hospital in DC to Georgetown Hospital to be worked up for a transplant.  She went to the top of the transplant list and a liver from a 5 year old child become available when she had no time left and it was a perfect match for her. The doctors described it as a “one in a million” liver for her. The only reason she has it is that another family made the generous and heart-breaking choice to donate their 5-year-old child’s organs. Nov 13 Katie received her new liver!

So… be an organ donor. Give blood frequently. Send donations to Georgetown Hospital and CNMC and all those places that perform these miracles on the sickest and most beloved among us. Links can be found in the Ways to Help section
